Bethany Michalak, a junior at Air Academy in Colorado, secured second in the girls sweepstakes race at the 16th Desert Twilight Festival by covering the 5-kilometer layout in 17:06.4 at the Coyote Run Golf Course at Leisure World in Mesa, Ariz. Michalak, who finished runner-up for the second straight year, helped Air Academy place second overall behind Niwot by a 42-92 margin.
